Hi I along with the majority of people in our profession will no doubt vote no to the question of banning elephants in circuses which I believe is right but we have to try and educate the people who spread the poison about us with animals any animals and that is very hard to do as most of the anti's
will not even discuss he subject and definately not come and see for themselves how we treat our animals we in the uk have had proffessors also scientist debateing the subject on our behalf and they dont want to believe them; so they will need a lot of education and mean while in Bottswana land they re debateing wether to cull 60,000 elephants this year and we in the circus must also sort out the bad apples that do still exist in the business carlos mac manus
hi Carlos
you are correct but you can not reason with a Fanatic and that is what the majority are
in Canberra Australia in 1992 the A.C.T Labor Goverment minister i wont name him but his girl friend was an Animal libber the same as (Peta) put a private members bill through to Ban Circuses with animals from showing in the A.C.T (Canberra) the circus Federation of Australia
put up a great Fight The A.C.T LABOR Goverment would not talk to us we lost we had about 25000 petitions they threw them in a bin i dont think they even looked at them great Justice
so this is how crazy this is. one of the private Govt members likes primates so it is ok take a 7ft gorilla to canberra but no Elephants or wild Animals Robert Perry Australia
Ok,the main arguments that this court trial was talking about are the use of bull-hooks on elephants, and that performing is unneccecary stress and emotional torment for the animals. Most of the voter comments against state that "elephants should be left in peace in the wild".
The thing is,Asian Elephants aren't left in peace in the wild. They are,in fact,an endangered species.Loss of habitat has decimated wild numbers,as they are reduced to living in a few isolated pockets of forest. The breeding facility that ringling has established may in fact be helping to conserve the species. It seems a little strange that whilst activists are violntely opposed to circuses breeding endangered animals, the same is acceptable in zoos.
Speaking of zoos,a visit to Taronga in Sydney last year, the elephant keepers and their charges performed a "display" of various behaviours they had taught the elephants. The keepers explained that this was mental stimulation and behavioral enrichment for the animals, and they looked foward to it everyday.Again, acceptable for a zoo,not for a circus? This also puts fire to the above mentioned argument that performing is stressful for elephants.
As for bull-hooks, I have heard horror stories about animals being beated severely with said implement. There was a video floating around on youtube a while ago, recieving wide condemnation, including from those who train wild animals for a living.
As I have stated before,I am neither strongly for or strongly against the use of animals in circus. I believe that if abuse is proven to have taken place, they yes, animals should be removed from that specific individual, just as bans on keeping animals are placed on people who abuse their pets. However most people who work with animals and earn their living by them would be horrified and even insulted if anyone suggested that their animals were mistreated.
Everone knows PETA are extremists and are ill-informed about what really goes on in the circus.(I still giggle to myself when I remember going to see a paticular circus with PETA out the front protesting because the geese were walking on wet grass...)
i vote a definete NO and i agree the public needs to be educated they only know the fanatics side as a fanatic allways screams the loudest and the media only prints the negative sides point of view its true there is next to no natural habitat left in asia and we all know how many african elephants get culled as one of the public said to me in ireland of all places we don't ban all people from having children because of a minority so why should they ban all circuses from having animals because of a minority animals have the best care and attention in the circus because we don't treat them just as an animal we treat them as a partener with love respect as you would a 4 year old child that was what i was taught and that is what i belive.
This is getting ludicrous with the fanatics. We are stopping animals from dissapearing altogether. If it were not for zoos and circus tigers would amount to a few hundred wild specimens.Take elephants away from our business is ripping the sole out of circus. Why dont our traditional shows do more to educate the public in their programmes. There will be nothing left but dog and pony shows soon.Hope everyone votes no.The vast majority of the public are actually on our side.We have to fight.
